Novice Hanggliding Certification

Hang 2 (Novice Rating)
Once you have successfully reached the Hang 1 level you will be ready to tackle the "Hang 2" rating.  Here at Foothills Flight Park we have the expertise and experience it takes to train you through (and past) you Hang 2 rating. To achieve "Hang 2" status we will teach you to perform these required skills safely and skillfully:

  • Land three times in a row within 100 ft. of a target
  • Complete Linked 90º turns. These turns must alternate from left to right (or vice versa) and demonstrate smooth control
  • Demonstrate fast and slow flight
  • Pass an oral exam
  • Pass a written exam

Novice pilots are trained to judge flying conditions for themselves and make decisions on weather to fly or not.  With a Hang 2 (Novice) rating you are free to fly without the direct supervision of an instructor. Once these skills are learned you are ready to move on to your "Hang 3" or intermediate skills.  More hang 2 information can be found at the USHGA site.
